Tickwright
Watch service bench with tools, movements and record sheets

— Service Lines

Three services. Each with a defined scope, a stated price, and a written record.

We do not offer a menu of add-ons. Each service is complete as described — work outside that scope is agreed separately before it starts.

— Our Methodology

How we approach every piece

Every watch that arrives at Tickwright follows the same intake process regardless of the service it has come in for. It is logged with a note of visible condition on arrival, then moved to the bench for inspection under magnification before any disassembly.

That inspection is the point at which we decide whether the piece falls within the scope of the booked service, whether something additional needs discussion, or whether the movement is in a state that makes further service work impractical. In the third case, we say so in writing before charging for further bench time.

01

Intake and logging — piece noted with visible condition on arrival.

02

Inspection — movement examined under magnification, findings written down.

03

Scope confirmation — any deviation from agreed scope communicated before further work.

04

Service work — carried out to the standard appropriate for the calibre type.

05

Verification and handback — relevant checks run, service sheet prepared, piece returned.

Quartz watch movement and battery service

Entry 01 — RM 520

Quartz & Battery Module Care

Battery replacement carried out with the movement inspected under magnification rather than swapped blind, plus contact cleaning, coil continuity checks and gasket renewal. Written for owners of everyday quartz watches, including solar and kinetic models, who want the case reopened properly and resealed. Same-day work in most cases.

What is included

  • Battery replacement with movement inspected, not swapped blind
  • Contact cleaning and coil continuity check
  • Gasket renewal and pressure verification
  • Written note of any corrosion found
  • Explanation of what shortened the previous cell life
  • Solar and kinetic models included in scope

What we do not do: We do not replace the movement or crown assembly as part of this service. If the movement is beyond sensible repair, we say so before charging for further work.

Timeline: same day in most cases

Vintage Automatic Rebuild

A full rebuild of automatic calibres from the 1950s through the 1980s, with the rotor bearing, reversing wheels and mainspring assessed as a set rather than piecemeal. Suited to owners of inherited daily-wear pieces that run but no longer hold power. Bench scope is four to six weeks.

What is included

  • Complete disassembly, cleaning, and lubrication
  • Rotor bearing, reversing wheels and mainspring assessed as a set
  • Donor-part sourcing where original stock has run out
  • Refinishing of rotor to its original grain
  • Amplitude logs at full and low wind
  • Replacement crown and tube where required
  • Twelve months workmanship coverage on the labour

What we do not do: Dial restoration, case polishing, or crystal replacement are not part of this service. These can be discussed and quoted separately.

Timeline: four to six weeks from intake

Collection Custodianship Programme

An annual arrangement for owners holding six or more mechanical pieces, built around rotation, storage conditions and staged servicing so the whole collection is not on the bench at once. Aimed at private collectors and small estates that want records kept properly. Runs across twelve months with two scheduled bench visits.

What is included

  • Two full movement services within the year
  • Photographic inventory with reference and serial data
  • Humidity and winder advisory for the storage room
  • Priority bench slots across the year
  • Written custodianship file updated after each visit
  • Arrangement can be paused or ended at any point without penalty

What we do not do: This programme does not include parts costs for any movements found to need additional repair. Those are quoted separately per piece.

Duration: twelve months, two bench visits

— Across All Services

Technical standards that apply to every job

Pre-work inspection protocol

No movement is touched before visual inspection under magnification. Findings are noted in writing before any disassembly.

Client data kept offline

Serial numbers, reference data, and inventory photographs are stored in physical records and not transmitted via public cloud services.

Lubricants appropriate to calibre age

Modern synthetic lubricants are not applied uniformly across all calibre types. Older movements receive lubricants rated for their tolerances.

Scope documented before work starts

The agreed scope is confirmed in writing before bench work begins. Any deviation is paused and discussed with the owner before proceeding.
